Here is an update from the lady herself!
Here’s what I found out from the urologist this morning. I’m going to have the stones and the stents removed next Wednesday, August 26, by the following methods: the stone that’s in my left kidney will be pulverized using a procedure called Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL); the stone that’s in my right ureter (actually it’s in the ureteral stent) will be removed using laser lithotripsy.
These procedures will be performed on an out-patient basis; the procedures will take about an hour and a half with recovery for two to three hours. Of course these are “best case scenario.”
I really like item # 10 on the information sheet: “Unless you are told otherwise by your urologist, you should be able to resume all of your normal activites. A liberal intake of fluids and mild exercise, such as walking, may aid passage of fragments.” Considering that I’ll have Thursday through Sunday to recover, I’m hoping I’ll be able to attend to my classes on Monday, August 31. Having said that, however, I know that I’ll still have to take it kind of easy for a while.
I’m sure Kevin will update his blog during this time as well, so once again, thank you for your prayers thus far and please know that I will be ever so thankful for your prayers during this next stage of my recovery.
